My Quest to 50 New Orleans

My Quest to 50
New Orleans, Louisiana
March 4, 2012

I’m 5 weeks away from my first half marathon (13.1 miles) of the year in New Orleans. I trained outdoors yesterday in Central Park and ran 6 miles, it was a bit tough in the breathing part because it was 27 degrees and I’ve mostly been training indoors, but it’s nothing I can’t get used to and will strengthen my breathing the more I run outdoors. Overall I completed the outer loop of Central Park which equals 6.1 miles including Great hill on 110st. I’m hoping next Sunday to complete 7-8miles.

In the next few weeks I will be running 3-4x a week which will include one outdoor run. I will not let this winter weather keep me away from getting in my training runs. Yesterday in 27 degrees I wore a dri-fit tank top, Under Armour turtle neck base layer and my Under Armour hooded sweatshirt along with my gloves and hat and I was quite warm and yes I was sweating even in the cold weather. I also tried out my fuel hydration belt for the first time and I loved it, kept me hydrated in my 6miles especially since the fountains are shut off during the winter season. Will keep you posted on how my run next week goes and how many miles I complete for the week.

My Quest to 50 New Orleans

                                                       My Quest to 50
March 4, 2012- New Orleans, Louisiana
March 17, 2012- Washington,DC

I have completed 4 weeks into my 12 week training plan for my two half marathons coming this March. Although as I mentioned before I have done a few half marathons before I still like to follow a plan and train for it, keeps me focused along with my other workouts which include (spinning, weight training, training clients and of course boxing). The 2 races in March will bring down my quest to 50 states to 46 states to go.

As I began my training outdoors I started carrying my handheld water bottle and as my mileage increases will use my hydration belt so I can stay well hydrated.

Although in the winter you don’t feel as if you’re sweating as much or don’t need as much water as the hot months you still need to hydrate properly. Usually in the warmer months I rely on water fountains along Central Park, West Side Highway or the track by my house but they shut them off in the winter time to prevent them from freezing. Now that I am running with the handheld, I love running with my water, I don’t stop as much and my runs have gotten better because I can hydrate properly. I plan on running my first half marathon this year with my belt which will mean no stopping at water stations and faster time.

This past weekend the temperature was in the teens so I didn’t get to do my long run so will make up for it during the week on the treadmill and build up my mileage. I have 7 weeks till my next half marathon in New Orleans which I am really excited about.
