My Quest to 50
New Orleans, Louisiana
Half Marathon 13.1 Miles
9 Days till race day
March 4, 2012
This past week I completed 24.5 miles and now it’s taper time. So far I’m feeling good about this race and curious on how the weather would be down in the Bayou. Looking at the weather it says mid 70's 90% humidity. My pre race food should also be interesting because I plan on trying all the different foods New Orleans has to offer the days leading up to the race, the day before I will play it safe and avoid any alligator or frog legs, beignets and I get to burn it all off during the race, ha!
I ran 7.5 miles on Monday when I took the day off for Lincoln’s birthday and ran along the Grand Concourse by my house in Da Bronx, although pretty flat you have to go far to get in the miles and feels like forever. I was between running on the bike path and hopping onto the side walk every time a bus was coming my way or trying to avoid big potholes. Later on in the week on Friday I knew I wanted to get my long run in before the weekend so I can relax so I decided I wanted to do 10miles, I ran up the east side from 59st in Central Park then entered the reservoir in the 80’s and continued on the reservoir for 6miles, it was so picturesque and the weather was perfect as I reached mile 7 I continued down to the west side back to E. 59st, I completed 10.25miles.
New Orleans will be #3 towards my quest of 50 states , although I am planning on running a half marathon in DC on March 17 and this is not considered a state I will still count it and add in my blog. I have several other states I plan on running this year which will be: New Jersey Half Marathon and Rhode Island Half Marathon and will add more to my list as time goes by.
